The Full Story

Camp Pringle has a colorful history. Members of the Salish people used to visit this area to hunt and fish. There are several First Nations legends about the lake. By the end of the century the area was being logged and European settlers were moving in.

The camp property was first developed by Charlies Armstrong, younger son of an Irish baronet. He was the former husband of Dame Nellie Melba, the celebrated soprano, an opera 'Super Star". Captain Armstrong lived here for about 45 years, a manservant lived in the "Gatehouse" which is still located on site from that era.

The Victoria Presbytery obtained the old farm for use as a camp in 1950. It was named to commemorate two Reverend's , George Pringle and his son. Many individuals and groups have volunteered time and raised funds over the years to create todays camp.

Spencer Hall - was named after Chris Spencer owner of a department store in Victoria, that later sold to Eaton Company.

Grace Lodge- Infirmary- was named for Grace Pringle a qualified nurse.

Branter Lodge- was named for Don Branter, who spearheaded fundraising.

Laura Butler Lodge - was named after Reverend Laura Butler, who played an essential part in the camp for decades and was pivotal in the caring and accepting atmosphere of the camp.

McNab Workshop - was named after Gord McNab who created most of the facilities on site.
